This contract signing partners DKRZ with StrongBox Data Solutions and Cristie Data in the first step towards implementing powerful metadata-driven workflow engines, to deploy as of April.
StrongBox Data Solutions (SBDS), along with Prof. Thomas Ludwig the CEO of DKRZ and Volker Wester CEO of Cristie Data celebrate the signing of a 5-year contract for the new Exabyte Data Archive for the DKRZ! This project will expand the Center’s Critical climate science research data services.
Using StrongLink’s metadata-driven workflow engine, this new system will enable DKRZ to maintain daily production access to all data, despite the decommissioning of the HPSS system. With StrongLink presenting the global normalized view of all data across all storage types, operations will only be centralised and allow for a “…solid foundation to ensure researchers have on-going access to the critical data needed for climate modeling and improved climate projections” according to Professor Thomas Ludwig.
Having been deployed in a scale-out architecture, StrongLink will prioritize 120PB per year in frontside production workflows between existing Tier-0 HPC storage and new multi-tier systems. StrongLink will accomplish this by using its metadata-driven workflow engines to virtualize 1PB of new high-performance Tier-1 cache, and the 5 legacy Tier-2 tape libraries, automating both the day-to-day tiering operations and background HPSS-LTFS migration of 150PB of existing data.
